"Girls don't like boys, girls like cars and money" -Good Charlotte

Oh how i love reading my old blog posts. haha. as ive been re-reading them i keep telling myself "did anybody even read this crap? i was so stupid!" from complaining about my parents to complaining about my back to complaining about a BOY...A BOY for crying out loud! I seriously thought i was more mature than that. I would like to formally apologize to anyone who had to endure reading those terrible posts. i'd like to apologize to my parents for taking up an entire post to vent about how much they didn't understand what was going on while i was recovering last summer. i know they love me and they were just trying to push me along. sure sometimes it felt like they were shoving me, but it's what i needed. And as for my back? I would do it all over again in a heartbeat...and hopefully I'd be a bit more pleasant. haha. And as for a boy...? Quite frankly, I feel like I'm still in Kindergarden and shouldn't even be talking about them. I think the real reason I talk about boys is because...that's seems to be the normal thing to do, right? Every teenage girl's life revolves around a certain boy! And as of lately it seems that every teenage girl in the world's life revolves around some kid named JUSTIN BEIBER!

seriously?

It's the norm. It's what everybody is supposed to do...In all honesty, I really don't care. I really don't care about boys. BUT DON'T GET ME WRONG...THERE ARE SOME GOOD-LOOKING BOYS OUT THERE! Right now? At age 17 turning 18? A senior in high school? I just need my group of friends, my family, my music, my tv, and my chocolate! Pathetic?....maybe...but that's all Tobie Rash needs right now in her life.

Me Update

I seriously spend so much time ranting about the things that i love in my life (music,tv,movies, etc.) that i rarely talk about MYSELF! That's what a blog is all about, right? haha. If so, I suck at it.

If there's one thing that's been on my mind lately it's this: GROWING UP! As much as I want to play the role of Peter Pan and be a kid forever, I think I'm finally coming to the reality that I am almost an adult! In 3 months, I will be 18! What?! When did that happen? For the longest time I've laughed off a lot of things like: college, institute, steady dating, and marriage but now I'm realizing that...those things are right around the corner! I mean, I apply for college THIS SUMMER!

The other day someone asked me if I'm the kind of person who reflects on the past or lives in the moment. You know what I told him? NEITHER! haha. I'm always looking ahead. I can't tell you what I wore last week, but I can sure as heck tell ya what I got lined up for this week! I'm the kind of person that HAS to know what's coming next! That's why I'm always looking up spoilers for my favorite tv shows. So you can imagine that...this whole growing up stuff?? Not exactly liking it! I don't like not knowing what I want to do with my life. I mean, I've got it narrowed down to a few things...but I don't want to wait til the end of high school or the summer after graduation to know! I want to know NOW! I've got people telling me "follow my dreams" but are my dreams even realistic? Realistic for a 17 year old LDS girl from Mesa, Arizona? Why dream big if I'm destined to settle down and have a family anyway? NOT saying that is a bad thing! I truly do want to settle down at one point, it's just all the in between stuff that's confusing me. I honestly wish I was like those people who live in the moment because it would make my life so much less stressful. And I know that once I do have it somewhat figured out...something else is gonna come my way and leave me just as confused.

No matter what happens, I head into the future with the last stanza of William Earnest Henley's poem "Invictus":

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Mr. Arturo Trejo

Ok. I think I've finally realized that I get too wrapped up in the lives of all these youtube vloggers! But I seriously have fallen in love with the Shaytard family and now...the Trejo family (both of which are LDS and totally hilarious)

For instance...
this morning around 9 the Shaytards had their 4th kid!! :) and I was checking twitter every minute for updates...LIKE THEY WERE MY FAMILY OR SOMETHING! haha.

Isn't he adorable??? I love their family! I can't wait for them to post today's vlog!

And now...?

I am in LOVE with the Trejo family. I'm pretty sure that's not their real name because this guy is whiter than EVER...just like I'm pretty sure "Shaytards" isn't that family's last name either. They all use nicknames for privacy reasons, which I love! The Arturo Trejo family is a younger couple (Nancy and Arturo) and their toddler (Jose Luis...so not his name which makes it hilarious!)These guys are so mormon it cracks me up! They're a lot more LDS than the Shaytards too. The Shaytards are more Hollywood...but i still love them! Shay Carl mentioned this new guy he found on youtube that he originally thought was some creepy Mexican guy...but it was Arturo Trejo! And that's how I discovered them.
SERIOUSLY! CHECK THIS GUY OUT!! I GUARANTEE YOU WILL LAUGH AT EVERY ONE OF HIS VLOGS. Here are some of my favorites...

More Summer Music...

#5. Sam Means
This guy is SO awesome! You might know him from The Format and after the band split, Nate created fun. (which in my opinion is even better than the format) and Sam went on to do a solo project. He got to write and compose all of the music featured on an independant film called "The Sinking of Santa Isabel." I still haven't been able to see it yet, but based on the previews I've seen it looks hilarious...or at least something I would find pretty funny. His song "Yeah, Yeah" has been stuck in my head all summer. Everyone should definitely check him out.

Trailer for "The Sinking of Santa Isabel." (I seriously need to find this movie somewhere!)

Soundtrack to My Summer

#1. Vampire Weekend
I've been listening to Vampire Weekends new album A LOT to begin my summer. "Holiday" and "Horchata" are some of my favorite songs that I've been playing continually on my ipod. :)Vampire Weekend I've decided is the best band to listen to over the summer.

#2. Wakey! Wakey!
Have I mentioned that their new album is INCREDIBLE?! "Almost Everything", "Car Crash", and "Light Outside" are probably my favorite ones off the album.

#3. The Black Keys
They remind me a lot of The White Stripes. "Tighten Up" is the most hilarious music video! And it's such a good song.

#4. Dashboard Confessional
It's just a summer band! I don't know how to describe it. No summer mixtape is complete without a Dashboard Confessional song on it! I discovered Dashboard during the summertime. It's only appropriate to be featured on my summer soundtrack. Everything off the "Dusk and Summer" album is good for the summer.

MORE TO COME AS THE SUMMER PROGRESSES! :)

Wakey! Wakey!

No, I'm not talking about getting out of bed and rubbing your eyes--I'm talking about the greastest band ever!!...ok, maybe that was a tid bit of an exaggeration. But I'm not kidding, this band is legit. I've found more and more that while I love listening to pop/punk bands, indie-folk/alternative music is by far my favorite. And Wakey! Wakey! definitely has an indie vibe to it. Plus, Mike Grubbs (the lead singer) is the most ridiculous piano player in the world...and trust me, I've met a great deal of talented pianists...that's a funny word "pianist" i feel funny just spelling it...ANYWAY! I first heard Wakey! Wakey! when their song "War Sweater" was featured on the 6th season finale of One Tree Hill and then again during another episode of the 7th season of One Tree Hill (FYI: a lot of my music taste can be credited to the shows i watch. hehe.) And just this week, Apple debuted Wakey! Wakey!'s newest song in the tutorial for the IPad. (Another FYI: I'm the nerd that knows these things and frequently checks to see what new inventions Steve Jobs has in store. And I'm fairly sure I've lost some of you with the mention of Steve Jobs...but if you do know who he is...YOUR COOL!!) ANYWHO! BUY THEIR ALBUM...or if you're anything like me, DOWNLOAD IT ILLEGALLY!!...he...he...he..kidding? Another, slightly less illegal action would be to ask me for a few of their songs. Yeah. That would be a lot better. Take my last suggestion!

THE SHAYTARDS

Over this 3 day weekend I have discovered and quickly become obsessed with this youtube vlogging family. For an entire year, Shay Carl or as he is known on youtube (Shaytard) has made a vlog everyday and posted it on youtube. Everyone in his family has nicknames that they always use when talking to each other.
Shay- Daddytard
Colette- Mommytard
Gavin- Sontard
Avia- Princesstard
Emmie- Babytard
Babyontheway- Fetustard

They are the absolute funniest and cutest LDS family EVER! They grew up in Pocatello, Idaho (which is screaming MORMON as it is) and then moved to Los Angeles to live by their fellow youtube friends (Barats and Bereta are among them and appear occasionally in their vlogs). A few months ago they found out that Mommytard is prego and since " in LA they charge you extra just to have a baby in the hospital Michael Jackson died in" -Daddytard, they are moving back to Idaho because the hospital expenses are cheaper and housing is cheaper than in LA. Seriously everyone should check out their videos! So entertaining and their kids are so CUTE!

FEBRUARY 13TH!!!

I am so so so super excited!! On February 13th Gina, Shelby, and I are going to see Jack's Mannequin and Fun. at the Marquee Theater. It definitely makes up for the MAJOR bummer of the Dashboard Confessional concert getting canceled. I love when I have an upcoming concert to go to because I find myself re-discovering the music that i've always loved. I can't tell you how many times these past few weeks I've played Everything In Transit on my ipod (which btw is the BEST ALBUM EVER) or woken up in the morning with the lyrics

"have you ever been alone in a crowded room"
stuck in my head!

One of the biggest reasons I'm excited for this concert is because I just bought "Dear Jack" a documentary of the lead singer of Jack's Mannequin ANDREW MCMAHON'S battle and triumph over cancer, i don't think I've seen a more inspirational and raw documentary of someone's life EVER! It made me appreciate his music and the kind of person he is even more.
